Australian divisions fought between 1916 and 1918 on the Western Front. You should plan at least eight hours to discover those close to the Somme river. Starting points are Amiens, Peronne or Albert. Do not miss the Sir John Monash Center. If you have a special interest in a batallion the itinerary changes and includes the main sites to see. Thanks to trench maps it is possible to give you the positions of the troops during the battles and to stop also on the small field tracks. Here are some general itineraries:

4 h: Villers-Bretonneux (Adelaïde cemetery, Victoria school, National Memorial, Sir John Monash Centre), Le Hamel (Memorial)

4 h: Peronne (Historial, Divisional Memorial), Pozières (3 sites)

or

4 h: Pozières (4 sites), trenches at Newfoundland Park

or

4 h: Pozières (1/2 sites), Bullecourt Memorial

If you add a cemetery, count at least 30 extra minutes plus time to get there.

If you have two more hours in the Somme area, I highly recommend to visit the ounderground city in Naours. Thousands of soldiers visited these former hideouts and left behind their graffiti, often as their last sign of life. Since 2020 a new museum permits a closer look onto the biogaphies of these men.
